The Roar (commission)

A commission for a close friend of mine.
First time doing an art commission for a person I've met/know irl! It was nice.

Tamandua

(This sketch of a Tamandua (they're also known as lesser anteaters) was done completely digitally, from sketch to the watercolor effects- It's a test of what my new drawing tablet can do, I was never very keen on traditional watercolors but now that I can do it digitally? Nothing can stop me! heh.)

I recently bought myself a brand new graphics tablet, exactly a year ago I bough my first drawing tablet with a monitor (Artist 12 from XP-PEN) which you can see in the photo below ↓

The new one is by the same brand called Artist 13.3 Pro, it's two versions higher from the older one(?) with much more accurate and higher color range (my old tablet couldn't pick up between saturated colors very well, thus it showed everything in brown shades instead of proper grey) It's got lots of buttons for shortcuts and a wheel that you can turn to zoom in and out or change your brush size.

The screen itself isn't much bigger from the old one but you can definitely feel the difference while drawing on it, it feels much comfier to have more space to move your hand around 🤔
It also doesn't lag or overheat as much as the old one, overall I'm super happy with it!

Fantail sculpture (commission)

This was long due but its finally finished! A sculpture of a Fantail bird commissioned by a client.

Definitely my most challenging sculpture so far, it's tail feathers gave me some problems
(sculpey is surprisingly heavy even when flattened out) the heavyess of the tail caused the bird's legs to give out and it started bending backwards causing the mass around the legs to crumble; as a result the bird lost it's balance and it couldn't stand up even with the platform under it's feet.

Despite me trying to give it support during the baking process the problem remained and it was now stuck in an awkward position, in the end I made an additional log that I tucked firmly under its behind and that seemed to work! It can now stand up without falling over (with a little wobble..)

HUOM. Ilmoitus! / Notice!

! TÄRKEÄ ILMOITUS !

Nykyinen sivujeni osoitte poistuu käytöstä joskus Elokuussa,

- - -

My current website address will cease to exist sometime around next August,
meaning my site cannot be found by searching "www.silentresident.com" anymore.

The new address can be found from:
silenthogs.blogspot.com

I was planning on re-branding and making my very own website,
however those plans failed and I don't have the skills to do that just yet.

I doubt I'll use a new domain/website name unless I plant to advertise my site again,
If I manage to get back into studying that may become a possibility again in the future but for the time being it shall remain a normal blog; if any changes happen I'll let you know.

"Spesia in Space" + Graduation

Covid-19 completely renewed everyone's plans for this spring, that of course included mine too.

I was supposed to preform at an event where I would showcase my digital illustration talents and draw for everyone on a big wide screen but sadly the whole event was cancelled. It was -one of a kind- sort of experience as well, the next one will be held at my city after 10+ years, so...

Yeah. It kinda sucks. A lot.

I did however get free hands to finish my graduate work how I preferred and after few months of planning and testing it is finally done! It's gonna get printed on a huge canvas and put on display in my old classroom somewhere, I'll probably see it the next time I get a chance to visit.

But that will be after graduation, late into next autumn.
Only a few weeks left.. Time flies so fast- It's been 4 years already?? That's crazy...

Kalevala Day

Kalevala Day is always a theme day in Finnish schools, naturally that includes mine as well.

We were assigned to draw something relating to the original story, and as per usual I chose animals...

In The Cosmos

Testing my skills before starting my graduate work, a little step by step on how I make art.
